Swallow produces a real popular culture type of art work. That is to say you wouldn’t find it unusual to see younger people relating to his work. To represent this I tried to construct a stair which possessed the same amount of ‘HYPE’ and attitude that characterises popular culture today – watched MTV lately? This stair does that by complicating what could be a simple spiral staircase and giving you attitude by making you walk further on the landings.

The Evolve Stair
Slightly simpler than the pop stair, the evolve stair takes Piccinini’s obsession with twisted biology to present a stair which has evolved to appear completely different from a traditional stair while still using exactly the same size and amount of shapes. This is based on this notion of human sharing something like 98% of their DNA with chimpanzees- something I believe Piccinini would find very interesting..
